Summer Internships at the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Peace & Justice

Interns will have the opportunity to learn how a nongovernmental educational institute works by working on IPJ projects alongside scholars and practitioners in the fields of human rights and conflict resolution.

Intern Responsibilities:

Assist with IPJ projects and events, including research assistance, support to events, and some administrative support.

The institute currently has graduate and undergraduate interns serving throughout the 2010-2011 academic year, and seeks interns – either graduate or undergraduate – to serve during the 2011 summer term. All types of internship are unpaid.

Qualifications for undergraduate interns:

  • Enrollment, with senior status, in an undergraduate program, in a field related to peace studies, human rights, or international relations.
  • GPA of 3.3 or higher.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Minimum of 15, and preferably up to 20, hours per week.
  • French and/or Spanish language skills a plus, though not required.

  • Resume – 2 page maximum
  • Essay – 500 word maximum, stating your interest in the work of the IPJ, your objectives for and expectations of an IPJ internship (please specify for which one you are applying), and how these apply to your career goals.
  • Writing sample – 10 page maximum
  • Two to three letters of recommendation, at least one of which must be from a professor.
  • Original transcripts – transcripts from each college or university attended (online, nonofficial transcripts will be accepted provisionally).

Please Note: This internship is unpaid and while we encourage international applicants, we cannot provide them with assistance in securing a visa, nor cover the costs of the visa and the health insurance required by USD.

End: Friday, August 12, 2011
