Job Summary:
Assists pediatric psychologist in the development and implementation of pediatric acute and chronic pain research activities conducted in the Department of Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. Projects include National Institute of Health (NIH) funded investigations of: 1) acute stress disorder in children following a traumatic injury, 2) the neurobiological effects of virtual reality on pain attenuation, and 3) neuropsychological functioning in children/adolescents with chronic illness, and 4) anxiety and distress related to medical procedures. Other studies examine various interventions for children and adolescents with acute and chronic pain (e.g., virtual reality, acupuncture, massage, group therapy) and funded clinical trials.
The position will involve performing a variety of research and administrative duties that support the collection, dissemination, and storage of clinical data for children and adolescents with a variety of acute and chronic conditions.
Basic responsibilities include a) consenting families to participate in research, b) assist families in the completion of the research protocols, c) maintenance of office files, d) processing, management, and basic analysis of clinical data using SPSS, e) maintenance of research protocols and procedures (e.g., IRB), and f) technical writing for professional presentations, manuscripts, and grant writing.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree in psychology, nursing or related health field
Experience, training required:
- Experience with clinical, biological, or psychosocial research preferred.
- Familiarity/comfort working with children, adolescents and their families preferred.
- Proficiency in using software for statistical analyses (SPSS), word processing, charts, graphs, spreadsheets, presentation, email, and database management.
- Experience with database development, entry, and quality control procedures.
- Ability to organize and effectively process and maintain records and files.
- Ability to plan and organize detailed projects with multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Knowledge of computers and experience with PC and Mac-based platforms.
